It's A- after all

“Imposible ayan tuloy hindi ako makatulog. Shit! panaginp ba ito. Imposible ni re-replay lahat ng slomo sa isip ko”

Yahoo!! I need to celebrate. Would you believe it I got A minus for not just ordinary subject. It’s Finance as in Math subject. If you don’t know why I am so happy because last year I had problems with my accounting subject that it end in dropping it. I am so happy after all that happened, happens and still happening I got A minus after all. In other subjects, in Economics I got B – but it’s tentative because our teacher got messed up with our exams. Then in Literature I’m C+ only because I missed one test and I over heard my teachers instruction at the paper that she wanted us to do. Sa P.E. B+. ok na yun because I missed my Bowling mid term exam pero I got B + pa din. In other subjects di pa sinasabi because they still computing. Babawi ako para maging dean’s lister (ASA!) hehehe!!

The "in" thing ngayon sa mga bands

This year a lot of bands are having problems with their vocalist. bakit kaya?

Banda banda bakit ang gulo mo?
Rivermaya- I think Rico started it all. Then nag gayahan na sila. Cause his lost really made an impact. Rico for me is the heart and soul of the band. So now without him is really a great challenge for the band. What I really like about the remaining members is they still continue this whole thing even they know that there’s more cons than pros. Another is at this point I can say that Rivermaya has the more lost then Rico. Of course they are not in demand these days, nahinto ang pag gig, and they are now searching for a new member. Kay Rico, for now parang hindi niya pa loss yung nangyari kasi wala pang napapatunayan ang band without him. But I know that Rico is not only the talented one in the group. And ngayon they have an EP out called “Ang Bagong Liwanag” containing five songs such as the open letter for the fans “Sayang”, the song that tells that they are still banda ng bayan inspite of what happened “Banda ng Bayan” , the station id song for studio 23 “Sumigaw” and 2 more songs.

Super Proxy

now they are searching for a new member. They said that they are open for anything like the audition is not limited for vocalist only but also guitarist, keyboardist and song writer. It’s also open for male and female, 18 and up or at least high school age. It will be on August 24 and 25 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. They require you to Bring your own Boses!!

Wasak na wasak na mungkahi

At first I think that one of them should just replace the space, because at least if one of them ang pumalit mas konti ang adjustment that we will make than sa total stranger na kasama nilang tutugtog. If a total stranger ang papalit he himself will do a lot of adjustment like pressure, criticisms, comparing and so much more that will be hard for a new comer like him or her. Pero if you think about it Rico just audition also. I think they don’t know each other. Kaya tama lang yung advertisement nila na “Do you believe in destiny?” I think na kung sino talaga ang makuha is destined to be there cause I think a lot will be auditioning because instant vocalist or member ka na ng “Banda Ng Bayan”. I think also that they should pick a guy. Maybe they will really pick a guy kaso para wala ng issue ginawa ng girl and boy. Look what happened to Eraserheads when Kris Dancel replace Ely. Kris is so talented. Her voice is so beautiful and youthful. Pero wala ding nagyari. Another is they should also get a guy na 27-30 years old. Age do matters in this kind of matter.

Orange and Lemons- I don’t know much about what happened. All I know is that Clem was kicked out from the band. And galit nag alit siya. Why? Because he said that he contributed a lot from the band. I think co-founder siya ng OnL. I think like showbiz ness it’s just a publicity stunt. Kasi I am listening at NU tapos may shoe ang Spong Cola at Sunflower day Camp kasama daw si Mc Coy, Ace and Jm. So bakit hindi Orange and lemons ang tawag sa kanila? Bakit kaya?

Super Proxy

Wala akong masyadong masabi kasi I don’t know if they will still continue the name Orange and Lemons it’s like what happened to The Mongols they changed their name because nawala yung isa sa contributor ng sound nila. So ayun. I think they will change everything. That’s just my guess.

Wasak na Wasak na mungkahi

If they will continue it I think they should get somebody that look like them. maliit, mahaba ang buhok, vintage looking, adik sa Beatles… ayun..

Banda Banda bakit ang gulo mo?

Pupil- well Bogs Jugo left the band to pursue other things. He joined Nina and he became the drummer. Not to many things to say because first of all ok lang na mapalitan siya kasi I am not a fan of Bogs. Another thing is I am not a musician or music genius so kahit anong galing niya sa pag play ng drums walang dating sa kin yun. I don’t know if how to say na magaling ka in playing drums.

Super Proxy

Tsaka with Ely, Dok and Yan as his member pipili ba sila ng kung sino sino lang?

Banda banda bakit ang gulo mo?

South Border- isa sa napakagulong banda because they keep on changing their vocalist. But what’s good is they still hit in spite of the changes occurred. I think they still hit because the heart and soul of the band Jay Durias is still there. so after Brix Ferraris, Luke Mejares then ngayon yung dalawa Duncan and Vince left the band. What I think is they are force to leave the band. Like parang contract. Pero whatever!! Jay is still there and I like Jay more than anyone else in the band. I heard that they will have a new album. I think that they are also doing something outside the band like Rivermaya. What a co incidence. Pareho pang nawala ang vocalist.

Super Proxy

Kahit wala na ok lang!! basta Jay is there. wala pang official announcement from the band. I think they will still continue even without replacing the two

How do you manage your time or how you prioritize things like for example your child has school activities and they should have their parents in that activity then you are in a gig, ano ang uunahin mo yung child/children mo or yung audience?

Banda banda paano ka ginawa?

Kjwan

(a little tribute to the band who won the ikon title. kahit na kinopya ko lang to at least you have a space at my site! CONGRATS SALUDO AKO SA INYO)

KJWAN burst onto the Philippine music scene in 2003, when the local rock music scene had forgotten who it was originally and people were almost afraid to listen to anything new. Still, they came down hard, raw, in your face, with the release of their self titled debut album (in 2004) and coined the now-familiar catchphrase, “Bastusan na!” Their hit song, “Daliri,” became an anthem to a new generation of rock listeners and being true to your self became the order of the day. Even the very word, Kjwan, seemed to flamboyantly step in your way and hounded you so that you would never forget the name, the band and the sound

This first album earned them the nominations for Best New Artist, Best Video and Best Album Packaging (along with Balbuena being nominated as Best Drummer) in local rock station NU107’s “Rock Awards.” Favorite New Artist and Best Video at the MTV Pilipinas Video Music Awards 2005 and a month long feature on MTV Philippines as the “Rising Star” Artist of the Month (Jan 2005), specifically, for their breakthrough single “Daliri.” The song, which received such a good amount of airplay on the radio and local music channels, appealed mainly to rock listeners who were fans of A Perfect Circle, Audioslave, Rage Against the Machine, and the earlier grunge bands that defined early 90s rock.

The Manila-based quintet is made up of distinct personalities, with individual musical tastes that don’t always overlap, and strong ideals that are often diametrically opposed. The chemistry might have combusted a lesser band before it even started, but the equally passionate friendships and shared hardships that make up Kjwan have held it together.

Long-time friends and former high school band-mates Marc Abaya (vocals) and Kelley Mangahas (bass) got together with fellow Ateneans Jorel Corpus (guitar) and J-hoon Balbuena (drums) to form the band’s initial lineup. They were joined in 2004 by Boogie Romero (guitar), another high school friend and former band-mate of Marc and Kelley, soon after the release of their self-titled debut album.

Three years later, at the height of the new music renaissance, Kjwan is braving a second album, 2StepMarv, which promises to be so many things more than their first self-titled album.

If the first album had been a simple matter of coming out, the two-year journey of making 2StepMarv was a more complicated matter of growing up—musically. They were able to craft better songs, hone their individual skills, introduce new musical elements to their primarily rock sound, and in general, just put more thought, heart and soul into the new music. They became comfortable in their new skin.

“2StepMarv is a bold step for the band,” Mangahas says. “As a collective, we really wanted to put in more of ourselves and our influences right now. With the addition of Boogie (Romero) for this album, we tried to incorporate this new sound and create a whole new dynamic for the sound of Kjwan.”

Skill-wise, three years of playing together, and more than that of playing with other bands, has honed each member enough to be confident in his own skin as a musician. In terms of new influences, they have consciously opened themselves and their songwriting to be inspired by genres other than rock. If the band has made a rock drummer out of J-Hoon, who in fact grew up not listening to rock, he in turn, introduced them to his original influences of jazz, drum ‘n bass and electronica. These, plus Kelley’s recent Hiphop / R and B and Electronic inspirations, Jorel’s recent interest in samba percussion, and the band’s elemental rock base, were the diverse elements that lent themselves to Kjwan’s collective songwriting for 2StepMarv.

Each and every one of them was more involved in all the creative processes, from the songwriting, the recording, mixing, packaging, and down to the video production of the first single “Pintura”. Marc, who writes almost all the words of Kjwan, points out that even in writing lyrics, it is easier for him to bare his soul to his bandmates, without hindrances like fear, insecurity or pretension between them. This very open friendship is a big factor in the maturity and confidence of the new album.

“Our songs are honest.” Corpus (who also religiously takes care of the band’s online business) says. “They are audible manifestations of our feelings, and the experience is a complete one, from the music to the message. We believe that, as songwriters and musicians, we are faced with a task to not only put out material that only we can relate to, but to put out something everyone can digest.”

The band worked again with noted multi-awarded producer Angee Rozul, who has recorded practically everyone who matters in the Philippine music scene for more than a decade in the acclaimed Tracks Studio in Pasig City.

“Angee is the best sound engineer in this country. Without him, we wouldn’t have even put out our first album, we owe him a lot and naturally for this record, there were no other options. He knows us best and we love working with him because were in our natural element when in his studio” says vocalist Marc Abaya

With this album, Guitarist Jorel, for instance, had the opportunity to incorporate his samba percussion skills to a couple of the songs (“Invitation” “One Look” “You Didn’t Know” and “2 Step Marv”) together with some of his fellows from Brigada (his samba percussion ensemble); while drummer J-hoon contributed his skills in track programming. Also, with regard to the addition of a second guitar, it became an important learning process for both Boogie and Jorel (who were both used to being the only guitarist in a band) to put their heads together and cooperate in order to come up with different but complementary guitar parts, while each still retained his own playing style.

Romero says “It’s a growth, from the first album, and hopefully, in the coming albums, it will grow more. So you can’t really pin your sound to one given genre. It will still grow and grow and grow.”

The band’s faith in their music held it together. A record more explosive than anything you have heard, the album has an incredible range. On one end, there are the classic guitar-driven, big riffed “Pintura” “Sa Ilalim” and “Daan” which elevate the classy, heavy sound that Kjwan is known for from their previous releases. They achieve this by adding more layers, voicing, and elements that tap into the genius of band members Romero and Balbuena, while vocalist Abaya slithers and sings about his infatuation with a mysterious woman and life revelations respectively. On the other extreme, there’s “2StepMarv” a lively track armed with an organic garage beat arranged for a mix of clean guitars and some heavy dynamics that took minor cues from drummer Balbuena’s love for broken, garage, and 2 step beats and “One Look” an insanely addictive pop song that speaks from the heart and taps Corpus’ fascination with the massive samba baterias of Rio’s carnavals.

Among all of these are gems that you might classify as cutting edge; fresh, soulful, hard hitting. “Shai” features new guitarist Boogie Romero’s dark ambient guitars, exploding towards the conclusion, with Corpus helping him build a sonic wall of guitars attacking and lingering as the song dies with the sweet mood that the band is famous for during live shows. “Invitation” opens the the listener immediately to the more secure sound of the band introducing the essential elements of the 2 guitar spacing of Corpus and Romero, The tight broken beats and solid groove of Mangahas and Balbuena and of course Abaya’s unforgettable vocals.

”You Didn’t Know” flawlessly fuses Balbuena’s jazz sensibilities with Romero’s rigid riffing. “Can’t Do That” and “Slow Shutter” highlights the band’s experience in playing with different styles as they adjust to a more soulful setting: minimal elements, sweet voicing, and a lot of dynamics. “Solana” draws attention to Mangahas and how he gels everyone together with an unyielding guitar riff and how it lets Abaya’s message ring through. He sings, “Can you believe? I found myself a special kind that keeps me safe” through the well-knit and firm foundation that his band mates created.

At the center of the record’s sound is “Focus” a beautiful piece that starts off with Mangahas and Balbuena locked together in a tight rhythmic progression, complemented by a counter rhythm by Corpus and Romero. Abaya sings “Take this away from me … take away this poison.” Referring to the classic theme of fallen relationships and honesty, in this case, the persona in this song is being honest about admitting that he has fallen out of love. “Save me from my emotions, I have lost my hold on my mind. I can’t find what you seek in me, I am not what you once loved.”

With their momentous effort for this sophomore album came great blessings too! The band won as Favorite Indie Artist in the local music channel MYX’s music awards night along with their video “Pintura” winning “Favorite Guest Appearance” with the help of a seasoned actress Chin-Chin Gutierrez, A month long feature on MTV Pilipinas as “Lokal Artist of the Month” in December 2006, another month long feature as Yahoo Southeast Asia’s band of the month and another month long feature as “Celebrity VJ’s” in MYX for the whole month of April 2006 where they got to extensively promote the new album and meet new people!

Corpus says "For this record, we hope to reach as much people as we can. We want people to listen to us. Know what we’re all about, like meeting a new acquaintance and developing friendships with our listeners that hopefully will last a lifetime”

“It’s raining men hallelujah it’s raining men amen!!”

We asked for it we got it. kanina I saw in the tv, she said that she prayed to the lord to stop the rain. Ang labo natin. We prayed for it tapos ngayon we want to stop it. sana ang prayer natin na umulan lang sa mga dams at selected fields etc.
Anyways, Ched is so unfair. Siyempre nag ko-commute kami. Angelica. Ang labo talaga oh. Bakit di sinabi agad. Leche!!

The Irritating truth- Ikon Grand finals

“I don’t want to be an American idiot”

It’s not about the simpsons. Kakapanood ko nga lang nga pala nun. So grand finals na ng Ikon. Shock nga ako eh. Ang bilis. Anyways hindi sila nag palihoy ligoy pa sinabi agad yung finalist. So gagayahin ko. Here it is

Ok ako kay Sitti and Skarlet. Yun nga yung nakalagay sa I think would win and want to win. Kaso si Vina. Asar talaga. Asar ako sa kanya. Pero infairness yung performance niya kasi I don’t know kung scripted yun nung siya na kakanta walang sound na lumalabas sa mic nya. So sumasayaw sayaw siya. Kering keri. Eh kung ako yun I don’t know what to do.. heheh as if namang makakasali sa contest. I think nagustuhan at ng judge yun. Sa band naman:

Sus maryosep!! Wala ang the dawn at sponge cola. Bakit may Kala?

So before malaman yung winner may production number muna. Like si Christian Bautista. Which I think a perfect example fo the Ikon contest kasi sikat siya sa Indonesia, Thailand… etc. then my number yung lahat ng semi finalist pati finalist kinanta nila yung “anak” which I think sumikat din sa ibang bansa. Freddie Aguilar is another example for the solo artist na sumikat sa ibang bansa.

“Now let’s get one thing straight I don’t really want to work this late”

My newest fave band. Why? Bakit hindi. The band consists of powerhouse cast. This is the post eraserheads line up with Raimund and Buddy Zabala still in their designated instruments plus Diego Mapa of Pedicab on guitars with Ebe Dancel of Sugarfree on guitars and back up vocals and Kris Gora Dancel of Fatal Posporos on vocals. Combining them is really a great idea. With their 1st album “Derby Light” they came up with catchy and nakaka lss na “DV”. Pagkatapos nun I haven’t heard of their music. Of course may “Patlang”. I think it came first. I really like Cambio not only because of it’s brilliant members, it’s because of Kris’ youthful voice and also their songs. Now with “Call Center” from their “Cambio Matic” album parang may distinguish na style or flow of the songs. Like yung “DV” and “Call Center” nga. I really can’t explain pero kung titignan mo there’s something talaga. Parang may trend. I saw their album and may mga titles such as “Pasaway”, “Totoy Boogie” and many more. I will buy nga pala sana last Friday kaso 300 lang dala ko. Eh 270 yun…so next time na lang. so ayun telling the titles I think you would understand me.
I saw them at SOP kanina kaso badtrip si Jolina yung ka jam nila. Ok sana kung si Denis Trillo.. hehhe… they really rock. And I think given na yun kasi nga they are from different great bands. sana ma promote pa nila yung band nila although I know it’s hard because of they have also different projects from their different bands.

Anyways, so kanina andun ang cambio tapos after nun yung rock legends na. sina Pepe Smith, Karl Roy, Reg Rubio and Ely Buendia. Nakakatawa kasi ely doesn’t have a mic. Tapos may gitara siyang dala. Siya lang pala yung nagigitara. Then I think gusto din niyang kumanta ng Juan dela Cruz songs such as “Balong Malalim” and “Beep Beep” ( I am not sure bout the title). Yun ely went to karl roy and share the mic pati kay pepe smith. Nung ginagawa nila yun I feel disgusted kasi pano kung mabaho hining ng isa sa kanila… hehehe… ang dikit nila eh… hehehe anyways they really rock. Astig yun. Pero what caught my attention is Raimund and Buddy is there. so pwede nang mag reunion. Tapos yung drums nasa kabilang stage. I mean I think si Buddy and Raimund ay nasa kabilang stage sa gilid kasi nga katutugtog palang ng Cambio. What if tutugtog silang dalawa kahit nasa malayong stage tapos kakanta si ely. Gets? I mean I heard lot of them say Pepe then nung si ely na yung nagsabi parang iba… hehhe… ewan ko kasi parang iba talaga… hehehehe

O diyos ko ano ba naman ito?

Aug.3 Friday

“nagmukha lang akong tanga pinaasa niya lang ako…”

No classes for this day because of the SK Registration. I am so happy so I could go to M1 where Sinosikat will play and sign cds. So I arrived there at exaxtly 3:10. I thought that I am already late and they are already playing. Pero when I arrived inaayos pa lang nila yung stage. Ok…ok.. Filipino time… I waited… waited… kaso ang init sobra because sira at yung aircondition. So I went muna sa powerbooks and read about 101 things you should know about da vinci. I wanted to buy nga pala that one kaso 500 +. Hindi ko kaya yun… anyways, mga 3:30 I went back to M1. and still wala pa ring nangyayayari. So ikot ikot muna ako sa greenbelt. I went to the church and everywhere. Tapos mga 4:00 na ata I went back and still… wala pa rin. Naiinis na ako.. imagine I have really lot of things to do. My projects, my midterm assignment, my midterm test for the next day. I wasted almost 3 hours for nothing. Tapos mga naka 5 times ata akong pabalik balik then I found out na 5;30 pa. mg 4:40 ko nalaman and I need na talaga to go home. Tapos may hidden camera pa… hehhee… ayun hindi ko napapirmahan… leche… leche…leche… tapos…

Aug 4 Saturday

Basta tinatamad ako… so I went to school… pina print yung kailangan I print… then nung dumting na yung prof baka wala dawpasok because still for the SK registration. Leche leche leche!!... may feeling na talaga ako… talagang hindi dapat ako papasok kung wala lang exam… then ayun nga yung kahapon pa… if I know na wala pa lang pasok eh di sana tinuloy ko na ang ligaya… hehehe… I mean I watched the gig instead. Bwiset!! Talaga… tapos may nangyari pa… to be continued…
