Beautiful Machines

Album Title: Beautiful Machines
Content: 14 tracks
Label: Sony-BMG
Album Artist: Pupil

Review:
Pupil is Ely Buendia’s band after Eraserheads and The Mongols. Ely with Dok Sergio (bass), Yan Yuzon (guitars) and Bogs Jugo (drums) come up with an understandably great rock album to have. I don’t know if they were only one who comes up with the idea that all of them plus their manager sings in an album. Guitar driven, heavy sounds, good lyrics were all here. Yung voice din nila pare-pareho, nakakantok. But in a good way. That’s their style eh. You can’t mistake this for an E-heads album even though their vocals were just the same. Here, some songs talked about love, hope, driving and fame.

1) Different Worlds- it’s a right song for a gig or concert. It says that even if we’ve been in different places or worlds (for instance as what the title is) we manage to be in the area. It is also about those people who went in that show and stayed as it ends.
2) Blow Your House Down- it’s a written for a cg animated movie called “hoodwink”. This song is really good for an animation movie. Ely knows what really fits for anything and everything.
3) Nasaan Ka?- a song written for the departed one of Diane’s mother (Ely’s wife). But it can also be a love song. It’s about losing someone and hoping that he/she will be back. I love the line “Mahahanap din kita kung may langit nga ba? Mahahanap din kita!!” This is one of my favorites from the album.
4) She Talks To Trees- it’s about a girl who is mysterious. He can’t understand why she is like that.
5) False Alarm- Bogs Jugo is the vocals in this song. It’s the first song that he is in the vocals. May pagka slow yung music. In fairness, may boses din siya. Nakakaantok yung song. I don’t know if it will be compliment or what. The song is about break-up. it is a song about a love that should be stop because it’s false alarm kind of love. Yung tipong kayo na, then you love each other pero biglang naramdaman mo na hindi pa…
6) Gamu-gamo- it is comparing to people who are like a moth that it is attracted to light which is fame to us. The song is really meaningful. But you know Ely is Ely.
7) Mary- Yan’s first song. I don’t like Yan’s voice. It’s like dull. Parang di masyado nagbabago yung notes from the 1st verse hanggang matapos. The song is about Mary basically.
8) Hypersober- 2nd song from Bogs. May pagka disco yung sounds. Pero mas maganda yung 1st song niya.
9) Dulo Ng Dila- The one and only song that Dok sings and I think he should sing more. Astig yung sounds, yung lyrics. Kakaiba kasi yung tema niya ditto. About wanting to tell something but can’t remember and as Filipino’s expression “nasa dulo na ng dila ko”. Gusto ko ito.
10) Beautiful Machines- Diane is the vocals here. Actually gusto ko din ito. Kakaiba kasi yung style ni Diane eh.
11) All this Time- After how many songs na iba ang kumanta Ely is back with this song. Maganda. Nice guitars, drums and bass sound. Astig!
12) Dianetic- I think it’s my favorite song. It’s a song that Ely wrote for his wife Diane. Kaya nga “Dianetic”. I’ve read na Dianetic is a part of Scientology. Ayon to sa kakapiranggot na alam ko, Scientology is a religion na kung saan they worship aliens as god (Tama ba?) Hehehe. Ang astig, ang sarap pakinggan at nakaka in love talaga if someone tells it to you.
13) Kalawakan- Gusto ko din to. Up beat yung sound.
Puro abut “driving” yung subject niya.

Overall: Astig. Must have ito. Kakaiba, Parang in a way makakalimutan mo yung E-heads. Pero habang pinatutugtog mo lang yung album. Siyempre you can’t forget that.
8 rock stars… worth it naman ang 285 bucks.
