The Band that in silence

“Sana hindi na lang pinilit pa wala naman patutunguhan kahit sabihin mo pang mahal kita” is a line from Silent Sanctuary’s “Rebound”. It was love at first time I heard the song.
Silent Sanctuary is not your typical band. Not the usual rock band that we’ve seeing and hearing. How do I know this band? I think I was listening to NU 107 when “Rebound” was playing. I thought it was from Sugarfree so I stick on that station. I think they didn’t mention who’s that band or artist so my mindset is still the same. I still thought it was Ebe who was singing. But when I got the chance to listen stairway to seven, the daily countdown of NU 107 I heard that again and the dj said that it was from Silent Sanctuary.
Then the next thing I know is my classmates loved that song as much as I do. Then sa mga stations na lagi kong pinakikinggan at inaabangan ko nag ge-guest sila like “Other People’s Music”, “First Set” and “Wazzup Wazzup”. So I got to know them better. I also learned that some of them came graduated from an all girl school… and that’s also my school!!
Yesterday I saw the video for “Rebound”. My mother was with me so narinig din niya. After hearing that song, she already hums that song. Dumidikit kasi sa utak yung melody pati na din yung lyrics.
I like their music. Like what I’ve said, they are different from other bands. They are in my list na bands or artist that I wanted to listen to give a break from the usual rock sounds. Some of them are Up Dharma Down, M.Y.M.P., Barbie Almalbis and other bands and artist para ma relax naman ako. Nagsasawa din naman yung tenga ko sa mga musikang ganun.
I wanted to buy their album “Fushiang Pag-ibig” but they still don’t have that album in record bars as of this writing. But any time next week magkakaroon na. I think I will buy next week. Can’t wait!!
Sa ngayon they are out with another single “Ikaw Lamang”. So let’s support them.

Switching on the spotlight

As I look on my blog I realize that I always mentioning Ely Buendia. Yesterday, I bought the Isang Ugat, Isang Dugo by Rivermaya. Rivermaya is another favorite band of mine. I love Rico Blanco as much how I love Ely. Well, di lang ata halata if we base it in my blog. I think Eraserheads and Rivermaya have the same impact in my life. So it’s time to switch the spotlight to Rico Blanco and Rivermaya.
The story behind my likeness to Rivermaya is the same on how I liked Eraserheads. Kasabay ko lang sila pinanganak. Mga 90’s. So parang na left behind din ako saka nila. Kaya if I saw yung mga anthologies or greatest hits nila I will buy it right away.
Rivermaya is the “Banda Ng Bayan” because of their nationalistic and patriotic songs such as “Awit ng Kabataan”, “Liwanag Sa Dilim”, and “Isang Bandila”.

Why I love Rico Blanco?

1) Handsome- Yes he is. But I saw his old pictures, his looks are weird he is very skinny and with colored hair. Now his taste matures so mas gwapo talaga siya ngayon.
2) Very Intelligent- I watched his Homecoming in San Beda. He mentioned that he was the youngest in his batch because he was accelerated twice. He is good in Geometry (my gosh… my hate subject) and quite have some difficulties in Physics. Because of his intelligence, he can write good and meaningful songs.
3) Talented- Very Talented. He can play guitars and keyboards. He could be a director and an actor. He had a indie movie (Nasaan Si Francis?) before. I wasn’t able to watch it but I think it’s Christopher De Leon praise his acting capabilities. I don’t need some evidence because I saw their “241” video. I was get kilig when I saw his scenes with his leading lady. I envy that girl. Sana ako na lang.

4) He could be a good politician- I think you can see it by the lyrics of his song like in “Isang Bandila”. Lumalaba yung pagiging nationalistic niya that seldom you can see in an artist. But Rico has it.

1. Seeing some people you don’t see for a long time
2. When someone sees you he/she will pay for you

9. Sometimes I like to see what they are doing.
And most of all…
10. It reminds of me the song “Jeepney”

10. You need to pay 6 pesos. Dati 3 pesos lang

JUST DIE ANOTHER DAY…

Last Sunday, I watched the K the 1,000,000 videoke challenge because I saw Ely on the commercial for that show. He is a part of their anniversary. Every time that the camera was placed to him, I get “kilig”. Lalo na when he sang some lines of “Be My Lady”. I think I will have a heart attack. He won at that round. The judge needs to choose the best among the rest. Even though some that where there were real singers, he still won on that round. I want to quote from Allan K, “Wala ka paring kupas Ely Buendia”. Well, he will never ever fade away.
The next day while watching the news, I was astonished when I heard that Ely rushed to the hospital after a gig because of heart attack. Gosh!! Just yesterday, I’m so happy and get kilig over him. Now he is on the ICU and has a 50-50 condition.
On the news, I noticed that when ever they have news about Ely, his rock and eraserheads status was always mentioned. It’s like “Ely Buendia, the former vocalist of the 90’s rock band eraserheads…” . Every one was shocked of what happened because of his 36 age and having a heart attack. But I know Ely will keep fighting till the end. Wala paring kupas si Ely Buendia.
I’m imagining, what if he died, what would happen to us, to the music industry, to his band, to Diane, to Eon, to me? Everything would change, definitely. Thousands and thousands or even million of people will mourn. It will look like Rico Yan Part 2. Ok!! I will stop thinking about those things because I know Ely will live longer. So Ely, I will always keep on reminding you everyday to just die on another day.

Heart attack makes the people come together…

Heart attack makes the people come together…

I heard lots of music personalities, some celebrities, radio jocks, friends, reporters, fans and other people who where there to support Ely buendia. They show some love, concerns and prayers to him. It is quite a long list. Buddy Zabala one of the ex e-head member is also on the list along side Marcus Adoro. Because of mentioning their names the E-heads reunion issue is hot again. They say that they could start a new beginning. For me, its better when things happened unexpectedly. Yung tipong pag gising mo, turn on the radio or TV and will hear on the news that the reunion will happened. Siguro masyado din silang na pre-pressure kaya hindi matuloy tuloy ang reunion. I think there is a right time kung kailan mangyayari ang mga bagay bagay. Let us just keep our fingers cross and keep on praying earnestly on that reunion and siyempre on Ely’s health. The supporter that prays forever will make the band together.

Some things about radio jocks

Listening to radio is one of my hobbies or as what some people describe “pampalipas oras”. For me, djs or radio jocks plays a vital role to which station I would listen. We, the listeners have the power in our hands to change the station if we wanted to do. To stop us for doing that, djs should be spontaneous, extrovert, humorous and avoids dead air and of course good music. That’s what I can see from Magic 89.9’s Mo Twister. But this dj also has additional qualities such as frank, creative, controversial and talkative. A character that is hard to find in a guy.

I like 97.1’s Sophie and Nu 107’s Trish. I like their voices and how they speak. And I already saw Trish on the Nu Rock Awards. I’m quite shock to see her face. At first I can’t believe that she is that girl, but when she started to talk I recognize her voice. And that settles me that she is really dj Trish. I already heard people saying that once you are a dj, chances are you are witty, outgoing, good voice etc. but you don’t have those good looks. I know you all know dj Mo Twister, Rico Robles. By listing their names you would know what I mean. But of course there’s still good-looking and pretty djs. For me the most gorgeous female dj is Andy 9 while the most handsome I think Borgy Manotoc will be on 99.5 Rt. If that’s the case he would be in my list.
Some djs uses weird, funny, cute, unique radio names such us Mojojo, Andy 9, Mo Twister (sounds like a food in KFC), John Hendrix, Hot Lips Lisa, Sophie and many more. But there’s some baduy, jologs, yuck names like Toni Tubero, Toni Macaroni, Sexy Sugar, Edwin Latigo, and many more. I mean MORE. I forgot some of their names but I know they are from Star FM, Love Radio, I FM, Energy Fm and Yes FM. These radio stations are for “masa”.

The worst dj for me is from Love Radio. I don’t know their names and why should I know, when I hear their voices I wanted to shot my radio with a gun. It’s a girl and boy tandem and if I’m not mistaken they also a voice over of 1 of the show in ABC 5. They use gay words such as itich, chuva chenis, eklabu and many more. It really pisses me. and when they laugh… ugh…just writing about them sumasama pakiramdam ko. I don’t understand why people like them or even the station. They are no. 1 according to them. Well maybe because they are pang “masa”.
Some djs were trying hard to speak in English. And of course that djs are from still from “pang masa” stations.

These are the TOP 3 of my Favorite Radio Station
1. Campus Radio- well as the stations name campus radio they are student friendly station. They also have this campus djs. But they choose songs to place on their play list. Because sometimes they don’t play songs that I like.
2. Nu 107- They play anything and everything if rock is concern. They also play songs from independent artist. That some radio stations don’t want to play their songs. They live the more music less talk saying. They have this 40 minutes rock-athon.
3. 99.5 Rt- I love them when they are still not reformatting. But now many they still in the process of changing everything so at this point I don’t like them much. But still I’ll them in 3rd place. This is the station where I talked with Imago and Sponge Cola.

Favorite Radio Shows

1. Sunday Sessions of99.5 RT- as I said I was able to talk to my favorites such as Imago and Sponge Cola. I also learn many things about different bands and artist. Here you can see the band as you never seen before. I mean the difference on how they perform and talk to people.
2. Other People’s Music of 97.1 Campus Radio- as the shows title you will know what your favorite bands or artist listens to. John Hendrix also asks questions that are really good. These are types of question that you will know more about that artist.
3. First Set of Nu 107- there’s a difference between listening bands in the evening and morning. I mean kakagising lang nila. You will know how they are tight in playing.
4. Forbidden Questions of Magic 89.9- actually its just a segment of the radio show Good Times with Mo. I don’t like the show itself so I only place that segment. I think you all know this. This is where Dj Mo became so controversial. He asks everything from how big is your wang to the worst actress and actors.

My own Year ender countdown

It’s my own version of year ender / nu rock awards

Song of the Year- well my basis for this is it’s really a hit. The song and the video make the band more popular. It became no.1 in different various radio countdowns and music channels. It is NARDA by KAMIKAZEE. The song is catchy and very simple subject that people where able to relate with it.

Band of the Year- I think it’s between Sandwich and Kamikazee. Hmm… Let me think a few minutes…
Ok it’s SANDWICH. I don’t know if I’m correct but I think they were just an independent artist. I know that its really hard to be one. It’s quite easy to make their original music but popularity is the one that suffers being an indie artist. But if Sandwich is really an indie artist they prove me wrong.

New comer of the Year- CALLA LILLY They are a group of young, talented group that creates kick-ass songs.

Indie Sikat Award- it’s an indie artist that have all qualities to be the next big rock band.

Vocalist of the Year- Well mahirap to… need to think again. There are lots of good vocalists but I think GAB ALIPE deserves it. He doesn’t have only a good voice but he writes good songs and he has good looks. In short he has the total package. Rock na rock yung itsura niya.

Album of the Year- Well dahil konti lang naman yung album na nabili ko na this year ni release like Beautiful Machines, Transit and 5 on the Floor, Fragmented kasi the rest ay ni release last year pa. I think it’s FRAGMENTED. Astig kasi yung concept.

Jologs band Award- SHAMROCK. At least may award sila galling sa akin.
Best song released this year- I think its DULO NG DILA by PUPIL. Yung concept ng song is not common. Not the usual I’m in love-your-in-love-too kind of song.

Best unreleased song- SLEEP TALK by UP DHARMA DOWN and SA BINGIT NG ISANG PAALAM by SPONGE COLA.

Come back award- I don’t know to whom I credit this award. If to Ely Buendia or to his new band Pupil. Maybe to Ely because we all know he is coming back for the 3rd time around. Maybe to Pupil because its where Ely is and the band maybe new but the band members were still the same as The Mongols. They just subtract then add a member.

Burn out Award- To the band/ artist who is missing in action This year is not for Ms. KITCHIE NADAL

Agaw Eksena Award- it’s tie between KAMIKAZEE and IMAGO always do weird dances. But their energy, mala Gary v.

may continuation pa ito...

Video Review II

1)Ambisyoso by Kamikazee- in the video you will see daw the real color of the band. Behind those tattoos, strong, funny personality hides inner “girly side”. It is a spoof of the Fab 5. in their version its Fag 5. the video is about reinventing yubg isang guy. But in the end na influence nila yung guy na maging “girly”. Yung video walang koneksyon sa song pero its funny. I will give 3 rock stars out of 5

2) Nakapagtataka by Sponge Cola- well the song I can feel its really x-mas time because of their outfit an may snow pa. head master Jim Paredes ay nag cameo role pa dito. Ok lang band performance. 2 rock stars out of 5

3) DVDX by Sandwich- they have some acting again. The video is about isang pirata na nag pa pirate ng mga cds. Another celebrity ang nag cameo si Edu Manzano. I like yung setting ng video. Astig!! 3 rock stars

4) Kung ayaw mo na sa akin by Sugarfree- the story starts with the guy and girl who play pranks to each other. In the end you will find out that they have a history before. They have this relationship na nabuo sa isang constraction site. The saying “the more you hate the more you love” is really true here. I love how the girl and the guy dance really crazy. 3 and a half rock stars

Misbehaviors

Album: Misbehaviors
Contents: 10 tracks
Label: Warner Music Philippines
Album Artist: Juana

Review:
This is a pop rock/alternative/acoustic album. They don’t establish yet their own sound this is not new thing for a new band. Maybe when they have their 2nd album they will give us a real and improve “Juana sound”. In the album they have some songs that are common like saying goodbye and making “papansin” to the one you’ve been crushing on. But they also have this song that talk about being a queen of their city and what they want to happen this year.

1) Connected- it’s about feeling miserable and doing things in a wrong way. Maybe the one wrote is showing some “misbehaviors”. I don’t like to hear this often because it reminds me of some things. It is also about being unnoticed. So nakaka sad masyado ito.
2) Ikaw Pa Rin- Medyo parang sad yung sound. It’s about a relationship that had been finished but you know that he is still the one you love. Someone leaves him because he has another love one pero ikaw “siya pa rin” ang iniisip. May pagka rock yung sound.
3) This Year- a happy and upbeat song. It talks about what you want to happen this year.
Heheee. It’s a perfect break-up song for me.
5) Jealous- it is simply about being jealous. Parang may pagka rap ata ito. Hehehe. Medyo mabilis kasi eh.
6) Pansinin Mo- it simply wants to get attention to somebody. One of my favorite songs in the album. Very simple lang pero maganda.i think it’s quite unique.
7) Reyna Ng Quezon City- a funny song. Even Shirley’s voice is funny. I like the rhyming. It is like imagining things. Masarap kantahin habang naliligo ka ng umaga.
8) Sige na Please- Song na nagmamakaawa. i also like this.
9) All- A long song. Pero astig.
10) Goodbye- the acoustic version. Mas gusto ko itong version na ito.
Packaging: Hindi masyado attractive.
Overall: hindi masyado worth it kasi 10 songs lang tapos yung isa acoustic version lang ng isang song tapos 285 bucks. Pero ok na din. Pero if you ask me kung ano yung pinaka least favorite kong cd from my collection ito siguro. Pero ok ito. I just want to repeat. 6 and a half rock stars. Ayos!!

Kami nAPO muna ultraelectromagneticjam

Usong uso ngayon ang pagbibigay pugay sa mga legendary artist. Ito yung pag re-revive ng mga songs from the chosen artist to “pay tribute” to the music that they created. Mostly ang binibigyang tribute ay legendary artist at hindi na nakakagawa ng music lately because of new fields they have, disbanded, rest etc.
Nauna na ditto ang Ultraelectromagneticjam The music of Eraserheads. Nang una ay nagdadalawang isip akong bumili nito dahil na record ko na naman sa tape yung album launch nito. Thanks to Jam. Pero napagtanto ko (Naks ang lalim nun) na collectors edition na din ito. At mas maganda kung merom ka talagang legitimate copy. Ito yung review ko kahit na medyo luma na tong album na ito.

1) Alapaap by 6cyclemind- Maganda at magaling. I know its hard to cover an e-heads original. It’s not the best but they did a great job if we compare to other artist na nag contribute ditto sa album. Magandang opening for an album.
2) Magasin by Paolo Santos- it just prove that mas maganda kung mag acoustic na lang siya kaysa pang rock.
3) Spolarium by Imago- Magnificent! Parang sa kanila talaga yung song. Aia de leon makesi it look fresh. I can say na mas maganda ito sa original.
4) Overdrive by Barbie Almalbis- Cute version ang ginawa niya ditto. Pero cute version is not needed in reviving an e-heads hit. Di masyadong maganda pero pwede na rin.
5) With A Smile by South Border- RnB version. Not that bad but not that good version either.
6) Tikaman by Sugarfree- Same with Imago inangkin nila yung song kahit na sabi nila magkaboses sina Ely at Ebe. Even if di ko nakikita I can feel na nag-eenjoy nila yung kanta.
7) Ligaya by Kitchie Nadal- Hindi appropriate yung song sa isang girl. At first its cute to hear her giggle in the “Ilang ahit pa ba ang aahitin” but if palagi na lang you will get sick of it.
8) Torpedo by Isha- Kakaiba yung version niya. Jazz version astig
9) Superproxy 2K6 by Francis M and Ely Buendia- Nakakaenergize yung song na ito than the original. Ely tries to rap. Masarap pakinggan lalo na when you’re sleepy but needed to be still awake.
10) Huwag Kang Matakot by Orange and Lemons- Ito yung song na minsan gusto ko minsan hindi. Hindi ako consistent for this song. Mas maganda siguro kung they stick with Mcoy to sing this song.
11) Pare Ko by Sponge Cola- Parang fresher version. I don’t like the “tang ina” part kasi parang hesitant si Yael na sabihin yung part na iyon.
12) Huwag Mo Nang Itanong Sa Akin by M.Y.M.P- Pop/Acoustic version. Ayos. One of my Favorites.
13) Hard To Believe by Cueshé- Lame version they should choose a better band to perform. They eat some words.
14) Alkohol by Radio Active Sago Project- ok lang
15) Maling Akala by Brownman Revival- Reggae version. Akala ko nga nung una original song nila ito.
16) Ang Huling Elbimbo by Rico J. Puno- When you hear this song you will ask for the original version.
17) Para Sa Masa by Various Artist- Astig

Overall: Magandang album ito para sa mga kabataan na di masyado kilala ang heads. Since mga popular bands at artist ang mga nag cover mas ma-appreciate nila siguro itong album na ito. But for those who loves e-heads siyempre they will stick to the original versions. 8 and A half stars.

Next legendary artist are Apo Hiking Society. I know them as entertainers and host in the noontime show Isang Linggo nAPO sila. I don’t know much about their singing legacies. When I heard the artist/bands sing their cover I know some songs but I don’t know that it’s from them.

1) Pumapatak ang Ulan by Parokya ni Edgar- Parang kinakanta lang nila kasi kailangan kantahin. Pero infairness nakakarelax.
2) Yakap Sa Dilim by Orange And Lemons- very soothing. I like their style that they make here. One of my favorites from the album. Ang sarap pakinggan pag gabi at pampatulog.
3) Doobidoo by Kamikazee- I don’t know the original but I can say it’s very Kamikazee. Punk/Rock/metal sound with an APO song=excellent rendition. Jay’s voice is not that good but as the song says Di naman kailangan boses mo’y maganda basta may konting tono madaling makanta”.
4) Bawat Bata by The Dawn- Magaling din. They put their own sound.
5) Awit Ng Barkada by Itchyworms- I think all of them sang in the track. If you talk about the voice quality it’s not that good but the whole song and sound is fine.
6) Batang Bata Ka Pa by Sugarfree- They are always good in covering song. I wonder why.
7) Nakapagtataka by Sponge Cola- I heard a M.Y.M.P. and Rachel Alejandro version of this song, so I know its kinda heavy ballad song with some “birit” on the side. Quite surprise that the band sing that song. Ok lang naman yung version but not that outstanding but they prove they can sing any kind of song.
8) Bakit Ang Babae by Sandwich- Parang original song nila.
9) Ewan by Imago- Ang sarap pakinggan ang saya ng sounds. Kahit di bagay yung song for a girl with the line “Bakit nga ba ganyan dalaga’y di alam” pero di naman niya napahalata. One of my favorites din.
10) Pag-ibig by Kitchie Nadal- parang nakakaantok yung boses niya ditto. Ok lang.
11) When I met you by Barbie Almalbis- My favorite song from the album. The kanta niya ng maayos.
12) Panalangin by Moonstar 88- I heard lots of version of this song pero infairness hindi sila nag patalo. I think it’s the best.
13) Blue Jeans by Rocksteddy- wala… Kasi I don’t like the band so I always skip this song the same with…
14) Paano by Shamprock- wala…
15) Anna by Top Suzara- ayos… Nag evolve na siya. Alam ko puro ballad kinakanta niya dati ngayon nagpaka rock na siya. Di mo aakalaing si Top yung kumakanta.
16) Di na natuto by Sound- when I’m listening to this sonng parang si Gary V. yung nakikita ko o na i-imagine. I mean masyado na kasing naka associate yung song sa kanya na di mo maalis sa ulo mo na yung version niya at din a kailangan dagdagan pa.
17) Kabilugan Ng Buwan by Drip- my favorite song. Ang ganda ng sound and boses. ASTIG!!
18) Kumot at Unan mo by Boldstar- Ok din. Ayos!!

Overall: Ayos itong album for the youth of today that has a little knowledge about the APO legacy. Mas ok or tamang tama lang yung pagbibigay tribute sa kanila kasi halos 30 years (ata) silang nag cre-create ng music at medyo huminto muna for how many years, while the members of Eheads are still here and creating music with their different bands.
7 rock stars.

Transit turned Gold because of me… sort of

The sophomore jinx is not true in the case of sponge cola. Their sophomore album Transit turned gold selling more than 15,000 copies. They even won the pop band award on ASAP which in short for popular band award. They have lots of supporters now coming to their gigs. You wouldn’t believe that they once play in a bar that only the waiters were watching and just waiting them to finish. Yael said they play as if there were lots of people. They did that because they did that all because of MUSIC. And that’s one of the thousand things why they are POP-ULAR!!. I believe that incident will never happen again. It’s clear that I’m not the only one who bought the album and became hooked with their music.
Astig kayo!!

Ely the Famous

Ely the Famous

Ely in the past weeks are always on the blind items and headlines of different talk shows, newspapers and tabloids. Last week Christy Fermin of The Buzz tells about the vocalist na nagwawala, umiiyak sa isang bar because
1) Niloko daw siya ng record company (which is Sony-BMG)
2) Iniwan ng mga ka band mates niya(Yan Yuzon, Dok Sergio, Bogs Jugo)
3) Na laos na siya…

And she gave clues:
1) Yung First name niya ay may connection sa relihiyon
2) Yung Surname niya lagging binabaybay na avenue
3) Huling Elkwento ko na ito

She didn’t mention a name pero its clear that it’s Ely Buendia. For me, its not true. I may not know him personally but as what I read in magazines and as what people says about him he is reserve, quiet guy. Lalaking lalaki… So parang napaka un-Ely like talaga yung mga sinabi. Hindi Gawain ng isang Ely Buendia. Then yung mga issues pa ay nbelievable. Ely is definitely still in the band pupil which is still going strong. May mga gigs pa sila. And as I read sa magazine interview na soul mates sila as band members. I have total faith sa mga sinasabi nila. And about dun sa laos na siya… He may not be as famous as with his former band he is much happier now on what he has and his family. Fame is nothing if you are not happy right? Ely laos? With this issues coming out dehins pare ako!!

Catching up with movies

Nov. 30
We have no class today because of the typhoon that looks like Milenyo Part II.
I think of something to do and I came up with an idea to watch a movie. (Because I heard the song “Movie” by sponge cola) We have lots of movies some are pirated and original that were just displayed in our living room. I’m sure that they didn’t buy it just for display pero ganun nga ang nangyayari. As I ‘m searching for a movie to watch I saw “Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind” . I remember reading my seventeen mag, Kitchie was asked about her all time favorite movie and yes, she said that movie because it was too familiar daw. So I decide to pick the movie instead of “Somewhere in Time” and other old movies because I was intrigued why Kitchie said it was too familiar I watched it in my laptop. I munch on some Clover chips and Dingdong. I think the movie should be entitled “Eraserheads” because it is about getting rid of a memory of someone you love (di ko maalis na di ma connect sa music). I love the notion of the movie. Now I’m confused why Kitchie said it was too familiar for her. Nagpabura nab a din siya ng memory? Hahaha. The movie is ok but it wouldn’t be my all time favorite.

walang.... pahinga

Nov. 2 (Saturday)
Grabeh!! I have a class for the whole week. I have this practice today about 8:00-12:30, then have this event for fresh women and junior college students. Our section won 3rd place for the presentation we made. Tomorrow, I need to wake up early because I have to go MCU for my org activities.
A while ago, while waiting for our section to be called for the practice, I saw this women enrolling for college. Parang kailan lang. I’m one of them. As I enter the gate, my eyes were going everywhere to see the place. Nang una nalalakihan pa ako sa school kasi maliit lang yung school ko nung 4th year ako. Pero sa ngayon, naliliitan na ko. I still remember yung entrance exam ko. Yung sakit kong pagkabingi… Napagalitan pa ako kasi di ko sinunod yung directions. Eh di ko kasi narinig eh. Leche!! I’m with my friend Narda that time, classmate ko din siya.
Whew!! Ganito pala ang college. Very stressful, very busy pero ok na din I learn naman eh.

Good Videos starts with good songs

Usong uso na ang mga videos. There are so many music channels these days playing good and not so good videos.
Dati naman hindi uso ang mga videos. Like Eraserheads they don’t have this video for their first single “Pare Ko” and I think all songs that they released in their first album. Rivermaya din ata. Ngayon, almost all songs that you heard in radio have a video. Good videos should start with great song. Like “Ang Huling Elbimbo” the video is just a narration of the song that’s why it won several awards. There’s some videos na very simple lang like “Sugod” that uses only blinking lights as background they just add their “rocking” performance kaya the video is great. Some makes story, some were connected to the song, and some were not. Like “First of Summer” they create a story out of the song. “Akap” for instance have a story that’s not related to the song but still looks fantastic. “Gemini” is also an example. Pero ang usong uso ngayon ay yung mga simpleng band performance tapos my ibang mag- a-acting on the side. “The Day You Said Goodnight” is just one example. The most recent na nakita kong ganito ang tema ay “Kung ayaw na sa akin” by sugarfree. Pero mas gusto ko when the band/artist is the one who acts. Like “241”, “Umaasa”, “Ordertaker”, “Akap” to name a few. Meron namang just make a video for just a heck of it. Yung tipong gagawa lang ng video because it would be their next single and needs to be promote. An example is “Can’t Let You Go” by Cushé. Some have a simple band performance like “Narda”. The song is such a hit in the air waves but not as a video. Meron ding videos that have a celebrity or artist na nag ka-cameo role. Like “Hari Ng Sablay”, “Inuman Na” and the most recent videos that have this idea are “Pintura”, “Umaasa” and “DVDX”. Meron namang mga banda na kahit di gaano kagandahan ang songs napapaganda ang video like Kamikazee and Parokya ni Edgar. It’s like you will always look forward kahit hindi ka nila fan because they were always funny in their videos.

Transit

Album: Transit
Content: 12 tracks
Label: Universal Records
Album Artist: Sponge Cola

Review:
It is a great sophomore album from a group of young musicians. They can create heavy and light songs at the same time. As the songwriting is concerned, nag evolve or mas nag mature pa. I think magugustahan pa lalo ng mga tao ito. Mas catchy yung mga songs dito than the previous one. But it’s all good. I feel the emotions that they want to show.

1) Bitiw- A great opening song for an album. You will look forward to sa iba nilang song. It’s an upbeat song that can make your head bang. It’s a song for their fellow musicians that to continue rocking out and make sure that “wag kang bibitiw bigla” because of course they dream about it and fortunately they achieved it. They also give an advise that “walang laglagan” or no back stubbing to each other because “sama samang hahanapin ang liwanag”. Very meaningful yet beautiful.
2) Tuliro- Lagi silang may background noise even sa 1st album nila. It’s cute ha. Parang mala e-heads yung style na may noise sa background. This happened to you when you we’re in love and don’t know what to do, don’t know what you feel, it is “tuliro”. One of my favorites. Gusto ko yung huling part where my parang choir or something at yung “tuliro, liro, tuliro, liro” part.
3) Movie- a narrative story about watching a movie with a loved one. It’s like na re-relate na natin yung nangyayari sa atin in those movies na we’ve watch. I also love it.
4) The Wandering- another up beat song pero English song this time.
5) Gunita- a light song. I like Gosh when he writes tagalong songs. It is a song made to cherish the times you have with your friends and loved ones because people come and go and you don’t know much time you have with them exactly. Live every moment and make it all count.
6) Do you know the feeling?- I also like this. When I heard this I thought ni revive nila tong song na ito. Parang may katunog na old song. It’s a song that pays tributes to the 80’s glam rock/ stadium rock era. It’s simply looking back to what you’ve feel and realized that things already changed.
7) Sa Bingit Ng Isang Paalam- it’s about how hard to say goodbye to someone you love. It’s also about what might happen next or consequences when someone will leave.
8) Myself In You- It’s like continuation of “Jillian” which Chris wrote and sung. Nag- evolve na yung relationship. It is also one of my favorites. Ang ganda din kasi ng sounds.
9) All We Need- it talks about heartbreak, but the sound is upbeat that can uplift you and leave you inspired.
10) Nocturne- it’s like Neon. I like it. The lyrics and the sounds match to each other. Yael always has this kind of songs in their albums.
11) Pasubali- it is about denial. A straight forward song.
12) Harapin- tastefully ends the album listening experience on an optimistic note. And soaring chorus leaves one with a sense of assurance. It talks about reality of tomorrow, of the future, and encourages a hopeful sentiment towards inevitability.
Packaging: Kakaiba sa mga cds na meron ako. Feeling ko ito yung reason kaya mahal.
Overall: I like it. It’s an album na gusting marinig when you’re doing something, kasi my upbeat songs to awake you up, and there is a “chillax” songs na if you want to slow things. Maganda din itong pakinggan with friends kasi maalala ninyo yung mga memories, past and anything. About the price na 295 bucks, hindi ko masyado gusto yung idea ng price. Siguro kasi kuripot ata ako, pero dahil sa Odyssey record bars meron libreng parang magazine about the band and some pictures ok na din yung price. Pero yung ibang record bars wala nun… so bahala na kayo kung bibilin ninyo. 8 rock strars.

Centennial Celebration: a celebration under the fu@#ing sun

Dec. 08
It all started with a mass held at the field. There’s no enough chairs so kung saan saan lang kami naka upo. After the mass we ate at this carenderia with my friends. We were saving money because Christmas is approaching. We also want to try something new because we are sick of the “Taft Fast Food Chains and Restaurants” we usually go to. After that we need to change our clothes: all black attire for our “Maskara Festival dance”. We change in the male c.r. Tapos wala ng pakielamanan, hubaran na. we are all girs naman eh. At galit nag alit na si Batch rep. We went on the fields to line up. Then we start to walk under the raging heat of the sun while wearing our black outfit. Just imagine how hot we are as we walk to go to the venue at 1:00 at the afternoon. Our white skins turned to red as a sign that we were almost cooked. It’s not enough, we were placed at the side of the track oval where its not shaded. We were already experiencing hell even though were still alive!!(Mag papakabait napo ako!!!) Lucky grade-schoolers and high school students they were at the shaded area. I already hear my block mates cursing our school because it we are already scorching. Thank God they moved us in a better place. The celebration started with a pep rally. I don’t know why I felt Goosebumps while we are cheering for our school. I felt happy to see that they were all happy in spite of what happened a while ago. The crowd noise becomes louder when the helicopter was there. It is there because of the human logo that they will make. Then the high school and college pep squad was there. When they were finished it is time for the college freshies to show what we’ve got as we dance “street dances”. It’s not what the hip hop or harlem dances. It’s the festival dances such as ati-atihan, pinagbenea, mascara, dinagyang and sinulog. We are the 2nd to the last to perform. Oh men!! I really suck in dancing. I can’t move because of the huge maskara we have. The worst thing is that it is caught on the video. I don’t like to watch it. After that grade school, high school also performs. But the most awaited part is the human logo which I didn’t see because we were at the down side of the track oval. Its ok I’ll wait for the pictures. Then its time to call it a day. I saw my high school classmate and tell her that sabay na kaming umuwi. She introduced me with her block mates and friends. I’m happy that it’s finished. The practices, encounter with sun will finally paid off because it will be part of our mid term grade.
I saw Gab Alipe and the rest of Urbandub in Wazzup Wazzup. They perform “Frailty”. Congrats for being the “Vocalist of The Year” at the recently concluded NU rock Awards. ASTIG kayo!!

Beautiful Machines

Album Title: Beautiful Machines
Content: 14 tracks
Label: Sony-BMG
Album Artist: Pupil

Review:
Pupil is Ely Buendia’s band after Eraserheads and The Mongols. Ely with Dok Sergio (bass), Yan Yuzon (guitars) and Bogs Jugo (drums) come up with an understandably great rock album to have. I don’t know if they were only one who comes up with the idea that all of them plus their manager sings in an album. Guitar driven, heavy sounds, good lyrics were all here. Yung voice din nila pare-pareho, nakakantok. But in a good way. That’s their style eh. You can’t mistake this for an E-heads album even though their vocals were just the same. Here, some songs talked about love, hope, driving and fame.

1) Different Worlds- it’s a right song for a gig or concert. It says that even if we’ve been in different places or worlds (for instance as what the title is) we manage to be in the area. It is also about those people who went in that show and stayed as it ends.
2) Blow Your House Down- it’s a written for a cg animated movie called “hoodwink”. This song is really good for an animation movie. Ely knows what really fits for anything and everything.
3) Nasaan Ka?- a song written for the departed one of Diane’s mother (Ely’s wife). But it can also be a love song. It’s about losing someone and hoping that he/she will be back. Medyo light ito compared sa ibang songs na kinanta ni Ely. I love the line “Mahahanap din kita kung may langit nga ba? Mahahanap din kita!!” This is one of my favorites from the album.
4) She Talks To Trees- it’s about a girl who is mysterious. He can’t understand why she is like that. Ito yung di ko masyado gusto sa album.
5) False Alarm- Bogs Jugo is the vocals in this song. It’s the first song that he is in the vocals. May pagka slow yung music. In fairness, may boses din siya. Nakakaantok yung song. I don’t know if it will be compliment or what. The song is about break-up. it is a song about a love that should be stop because it’s false alarm kind of love. Yung tipong kayo na, then you love each other pero biglang naramdaman mo na hindi pa… Ang sakit ng linya na “Kalimutan mo na ako, Kalimutan mo na, nakalimutan ko na, Kalimutan mo na na minahal kita…”
6) Gamu-gamo- it is comparing to people who are like a moth that it is attracted to light which is fame to us. The song is really meaningful. Gusto ko yung pagka compare ni Ely parang kung titignan mo lang parang walang connection. But you know Ely is Ely.
7) Mary- Yan’s first song. I don’t like Yan’s voice. It’s like dull. Parang di masyado nagbabago yung notes from the 1st verse hanggang matapos. The song is about Mary basically.
8) Hypersober- 2nd song from Bogs. May pagka disco yung sounds. Pero mas maganda yung 1st song niya.
9) Dulo Ng Dila- The one and only song that Dok sings and I think he should sing more. Astig yung sounds, yung lyrics. Kakaiba kasi yung tema niya ditto. About wanting to tell something but can’t remember and as Filipino’s expression “nasa dulo na ng dila ko”. Gusto ko ito.
10) Beautiful Machines- Diane is the vocals here. Actually gusto ko din ito. Kakaiba kasi yung style ni Diane eh.
11) All this Time- After how many songs na iba ang kumanta Ely is back with this song. Maganda. Nice guitars, drums and bass sound. Astig!
12) Dianetic- I think it’s my favorite song. It’s a song that Ely wrote for his wife Diane. Kaya nga “Dianetic”. I’ve read na Dianetic is a part of Scientology. Ayon to sa kakapiranggot na alam ko, Scientology is a religion na kung saan they worship aliens as god (Tama ba?) Hehehe. Ang astig, ang sarap pakinggan at nakaka in love talaga if someone tells it to you.
13) Kalawakan- Gusto ko din to. Up beat yung sound.
14) Lost Guide- 2nd song na si Yan ang boses. Katunog lang din ng “Mary”. Pero mas gusto ko ito, kasi may improvement na. At parang bumirit pa si Yan ditto. Puro abut “driving” yung subject niya.

Packaging: Tamang tama lang yung eye na image dun sa album. Ayos lang…
Overall: Astig. Must have ito. Kakaiba, Parang in a way makakalimutan mo yung E-heads. Pero habang pinatutugtog mo lang yung album. Siyempre you can’t forget that.
8 rock stars… worth it naman ang 285 bucks.

NBSB

“NBSB”

I’m love by my mother
Love by my father
But no suitors
Here in the corner
Already old
No one is ready to hold
My heart that I can lend
To someone I can depend

No boyfriend since birth
That’s what I’m called
But don’t worry
Why hurry?
I’m too young
To hurt by someone
I just enjoy my life
Like couples can’t
